Admissions Policy for Central Technology & Sports College 2010
The Central Technology & Sports College is a DCSF designated Specialist College, which delivers the National Curriculum, but emphasizes Mathematics, Information Communications Technology, Science, Design Technology and Physical Education.
The Published Admission Number (PAN) at The Central Technology & Sports College for September 2010 is 137.
Up to 10% of the places will be allocated on the basis of aptitude for Technology. Students whose entry is to be based on Technological aptitude will be required to present their child for the Assessment (one hour) at The Central Technology & Sports College in the year preceding entry on one of the dates published in the College prospectus.
Parents who wish their child to take the assessment should request, complete and return an Assessment Application Form, which is available from the College, by a week before the Assessment.
Please note: Sitting the assessment is not considered an application in itself. Results will be released to parents within a week of the final aptitude test having taken place, with an indication of those who qualify for an aptitude place. NB Only Lincolnshire LA can make the 'single offer' to parents on 1 March in the relevant year, including for those students who do qualify for one of the 15 aptitude places.
The remaining 90% of student applications will be banded to ensure that a comprehensive intake of students is achieved and that all levels of ability are represented. If there is over-subscription within a particular band then the normal over-subscription criteria will apply. The band into which a student is placed will be as a result of the same range of data, including: National Curriculum Key Stage 1 SAT Results, National Curriculum Key Stage 2 Teacher Assessments from the Primary/Junior Schools, NFER or equivalent data.
Over-Subscription
Where the number of applications for admission exceeds the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit:
Where the child attends a Central Technology & Sports College Partner Primary or Junior School. The College Partner Primary and Junior Schools are listed as follows:

Where there are physical medical grounds, supported by qualified medical evidence, for admitting the child.
Where one child has a brother or sister who is on the College roll at the start of the academic year a place is being applied for.
Proximity of the child's home to the College, with those living nearer being accorded the higher priority, as measured between the Post Office address of the College and the Post Office address point of the home by public highway. In the case of a block of flats, or other communal residence, the main shared entrance will be used.
The Governors will accept all students with a statutory right to a place at the school i.e. those with a statement naming the school if we are able to meet their needs and those looked after children where those with parental responsibility have named the College. If the College receives applications from either of these categories then the number of places available to all other students will be adjusted accordingly.
October 2009 Update….. Clarification on Admissions for September 2010
Although the school will be changing its status to become an academy in September 2010, the school is still using the existing admissions policy (above) for admissions in September 2009. If you want your child to attend on the Central site in September 2010 put the school as your first preference as the school remains popular and therefore over-subscribed.
