Behaviour policy

The College's philosophy is that students should demonstrate dignity and respect for each other at all times. The one rule for all of us in College is 'Everyone will act with courtesy and consideration for each other at all times." Any kind of inappropriate and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated at the College and action will be taken against any students who demonstrate such behaviour. The College has a clear 'Central Code' that we expect all students to follow. Our rewards and sanctions policies are based on this code.

The College will take very firm action against:

> bullying,

 > racial abuse

 > theft

 > verbal abuse and disrespect of staff

 > smoking and use of illegal substances or alcohol

 > any item considered an offensive weapon

 > fighting

 > physical assault

We are fortunate that the vast majority of our students are hard working, responsible and enjoy their learning. However, where standards of conduct fall short, the College has a policy of holding students back at break, lunchtime or in more severe cases after-school. Parents will receive 24 hours' notice of an after-school detention longer than 10 minutes.

Sometimes students will be required to work in supervised isolation.

Students may also be put on 'report' to monitor aspects of conduct and be set specific targets for improvement. The Pastoral Support Team work closely with parents in these cases.

For serious misbehaviour a fixed term external exclusion may result. Students will be excluded initially for one day, but repeated fixed term exclusions will increase in duration, culminating in a meeting with College governors. For any of the above offenses, where the headteacher considers the nature of the offence to be very serious, a permanent exclusion may result.
